The new MFL GCSE will explicitly test students’ understanding of Sound-Symbol Correspondence. If you are confused about what that means, then this is the workshop for you!

Monday 23rd October 2023 – 7-8pm

Many of you, I’m sure, have been incorporating phonics and explicit pronunciation practice into your teaching for a while without even realising it, but how can you make it even more aligned with the demands of the new GCSE? During this one-hour workshop, I will give you an overview of how I include phonics and SSC into my own lesson planning and resources.

I will cover:

• What is SSC and why is it so important?
• How to start embedding phonics in MFL lessons from the start of KS3 (or even KS2).
• Some great activities to introduce and practise different sounds and spellings.
• Advice on how much to correct students’ pronunciation – focusing on not demotivating students while still ensuring they can make themselves understood.
