    FAQs

NB Due to the current Covid situation and restrictions, I am only offering online classes for the academic year 2020-21.
Under normal circumstances, tuition generally takes place in my home near Peterborough or online. We have an initial chat to discuss your requirements, either in person, on the phone or via email, and then I will tailor-make a course to suit you. It is up to you how often you would like lessons, how long each lesson will last and what you would like to focus on (conversation, grammar, exam preparation, etc).

It is exactly the same as face-to-face tuition, except that you are speaking to your tutor via Skype or Zoom. It may seem a little strange at first if you’re not used to online learning, but it is a great way of improving your language skills, especially speaking!

I tutor people of all ages! You’re never too young or too old to learn a second, third, or even fourth language.

Typical fees are £40 an hour face-to-face (not currently available) or £35 an hour online.

The MFL teachers’ courses cost £8 per 45 minute lesson and are payable in blocks of 5.

No, the length of the lessons is entirely up to you! I tend to find that children prefer shorter lessons of around 30-45 minutes, but some adults and business classes work better as 90 minute or two hour sessions.

As with lesson length, the frequency of lessons is also up to you! If you have a very hectic schedule and can only squeeze in one lesson per fortnight, that’s absolutely fine. Equally, if you are trying to cram in some last minute revision for an exam and need a session every day, that can be arranged, too.

If you need to cancel a lesson and let me know up to the day before, you will not be charged for the lesson. If you cancel on the same day, you will be charged the full cost of the lesson. If you are on one of the MFL teachers’ courses, you must pay for all five lessons in each block, regardless of whether you miss a lesson or not.

All teaching resources are virtual and downloadable Word documents – I do not post out physical copies of the resources. When you have purchased a resource, you should be directed back to the website to download it immediately. You should also receive a confirmation email which contains links to download the resources.

The Staffroom is an education staff support community that gives you access to wellbeing resources, a private Facebook group, a monthly Zoom call with other members to check in and have a chat, a WhatsApp group (for those who are happy to share their phone numbers), and regular webinars with experts in the field of wellbeing in education.
