This 38-page workbook, which includes transcripts and answers, contains Foundation and Higher exam-style dictations for the new AQA Spanish GCSE (first teaching 2024, first exams 2026).
There are 9 topics, mirroring the AQA specification’s themes and sub-topics (see screenshot of the contents page for details).
Following the AQA SAMs, for the foundation questions, there are 4 sentences per topic and for the higher questions, there are 5. I have checked the vocab for every sentence meticulously against the AQA prescribed vocab list. For both Foundation and Higher, there are 2 words that are not on the prescribed vocab list, as per AQA guidelines.

This 20-page workbook (including model answers) contains 9 photos for the new AQA Spanish GCSE (first exams 2026) writing exam. It is a downloadable Word document.
Covering all 9 of the possible topic areas for the new AQA Spanish GCSE (see accompanying photo of the contents list for details), I have carefully selected a range of black and white photos that showcase diversity and inclusion, from the royalty-free website Unsplash (and Unsplash+).
In the model answers, I have only used vocabulary that is included in the prescribed vocab list for Foundation, to ensure that students can practise using the key language needed for this GCSE.
While this workbook is an ideal starting point for practising the new GCSE writing paper, the photos can also be used to prepare students for the photo card element of the speaking exam.
This is a short lesson to introduce the verb ‘estar’ and practise with compass directions and a map of Spain. It is suitable for beginners, and would be ideal in Year 7 (or even in KS2) as an introduction to a very common verb and Spanish geography. This lesson would work very well as a standalone cover lesson (as long as the cover teacher has some Spanish knowledge and can work through the lesson with the students).
The battleships game is also a perfect retrieval activity at any point after you’ve taught the verb ‘estar’, as it is quick and low-prep. It can be adapted to any vocabulary or grammar point in any language (see my CPD on Games in MFL for other ideas of how to use this and similar games!)

The PowerPoint is deliberately plain, with white backgrounds, simple coloured headings and Calibri font throughout. It should therefore be compatible with all computers and easily adaptable for different settings and teacher preference for fonts, colours, etc.
This lesson introduces some regular AR verbs and adverbs of frequency in Spanish, and is ideal for beginners or for revision in KS4 or even KS5. It is ideal as a standalone grammar lesson, or as part of the topic of free time activities.
