In a recent online evening class with my German GCSE/A level group, we looked at the way that the German language is changing and developing to reflect the modern world. I put together a PowerPoint with some vocabulary on the topics of technology and diversity, equity and inclusion. I started with the proposed vocabulary lists for the new German GCSE (first exams 2026) and added some more from articles and other sources online. I’ve also included some links to interesting articles, especially on the topic of gender neutral language and pronouns.
This is by no means an exhaustive list and there is so much more to add on these topics, but when I mentioned it on social media, a number of people said they’d be interested in seeing what I’d done, so here it is!
