Here are some answers to your frequently asked questions!
How does private tuition work?
NB Due to the current Covid situation and restrictions, I am only offering online classes for the academic year 2020-21.
Tuition generally takes place in my home near Peterborough or online. We have an initial chat to discuss your requirements, either in person, on the phone or via email, and then I will tailor-make a course to suit you. It is up to you how often you would like lessons, how long each lesson will last and what you would like to focus on (conversation, grammar, exam preparation, etc).
How does online tuition work?
It is exactly the same as face-to-face tuition, except that you are speaking to your tutor via Skype or Zoom. It may seem a little strange at first if you’re not used to online learning, but it is a great way of improving your language skills, especially speaking!
Do you work with children?
I tutor people of all ages! You’re never too young or too old to learn a second, third, or even fourth language.
How much does it cost?
Typical fees are £40 an hour face-to-face (not currently available) or £35 an hour online.
Do all lessons have to be an hour long?
No, the length of the lessons is entirely up to you! I tend to find that children prefer shorter lessons of around 30-45 minutes, but some adults and business classes work better as 90-minute or two hour sessions.
Do I have to have one lesson per week?
As with lesson length, the frequency of lessons is also up to you! If you have a very hectic schedule and can only squeeze in one lesson per fortnight, that’s absolutely fine. Equally, if you are trying to cram in some last minute revision for an exam and need a session every day, that can be arranged, too.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel a lesson and let me know up to the day before, you will not be charged for the lesson. If you cancel on the same day, you will be charged the full cost of the lesson.
Do I need to buy a textbook?
During the first lesson, we will discuss whether or not you want to use a textbook. If we decide to use one, you will need to purchase a copy for yourself, and I will also buy a copy of the book, for which you won’t be charged. Should you decide not to use a textbook, I will provide you with worksheets and other materials as the course goes along, free of charge.
